"Joyful Parenting Programme 2025-2026" Life Education: My Life Understanding Death Tour

Our school has always placed great emphasis on home-school collaboration. To help parents and children face various challenges in life with confidence and composure, our Student Support Team continued to organise the ‘Joyful Parenting Programme’ in this school year. On 17 January 2026 (Saturday), we partnered with St. James’ Settlement Ark Life Education Centre to hold the “My Life Understanding Death Tour”.The activity brought together 32 students and parents to reflect on the value and meaning of life through site visits and experiential learning.

Centred around the theme “Understanding Life through Death”, the activity aimed to help participants break the taboo surrounding death, develop an open attitude towards local funeral culture, realise the finitude of life, and learn to cherish the present moment.

Guided by professional docents, participants visited a number of sites in Hong Kong Island and Kwai Chung associated with the end of life, including Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan (learning about longevity tablets and traditional funeral customs), shops specialising in burial garments and coffins (understanding the symbolism of funeral paraphernalia), Kwai Chung Crematorium, Eternal Love Garden (memorial garden for miscarried foetuses), and the FEHD’s Garden of Remembrance (introduction to green burial). Through close observation, both students and parents expressed that death—once a topic “avoided in conversation”—could in fact be discussed in such a calm and dignified manner. In the afternoon, the group moved to Noah’s Ark on Ma Wan—Ark Life Education Centre, where participants engaged in in-depth experiential activities in small groups.

Life and death education is never about teaching people to fear death; it is about helping them cherish life more deeply. This event not only offered students and parents a shared journey of inner reflection, but also demonstrated our school’s commitment to promoting life education and home-school collaboration. In the future, our school will continue to partner with different organisations to roll out more meaningful and heartfelt life education programmes—guiding students to embrace gratitude and courage as they grow.
