Congratulations to Prof. Rosie Young! She is awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Prof. Rosie was marked for the top award, the Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM), together with three personnel with outstanding contribution to the community of Hong Kong.
Professor Young is the Chairperson of our School’s Management Committee. She is a world-renowned educationist and researcher in medicine and one of the top authorities on endocrinology worldwide. She has received numerous honours for her exemplary work in the scientific and medical fields. Her research in diabetes mellitus, carbohydrate metabolism in liver disease, thyrotoxicosis and thyrotoxic periodic paralysis has led to improved treatments that help save lives and reduce the suffering of patients. Prof. Young joined the University of Hong Kong in 1954. Although having retired for nearly 20 years, she has continued to serve the University and young people in Hong Kong, and stays active in passing her knowledge and experience to the younger generation of medical professionals. Her tireless devotion and valuable contributions to public health and education has brought her utmost respect from the community.
She was awarded GBM in recognition of her exemplary work in education and the medical field.
