Student grasping award in The Global Final of S. -T. Yau High School Science Award
S.-T. Yau High School Science Award is a science and innovation competition for middle school students, established in 2008 by the renowned mathematician Professor Shing-Tung Yau. Hosted by Tsinghua University, organized by the Yau Mathematical Sciences Center of Tsinghua University, and co-organized by the Shanghai Institute of Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, the award aims to promote the spirit of science among young people, inspire middle school students' research potential and academic interests, and encourage more outstanding talents to pursue scientific research.
The " S.-T. Yau High School Science Award" includes six competition categories: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Economic and Financial Modeling. After intense competition in two rounds of preliminary contests, our student Ge Tanliang from S.5A successfully advanced to the Asia Regional Finals among over 50 teams from various Asian regions. He was the only student from a Hong Kong school to progress to the third round of judging in the Chemistry category. . On 1st November 2025, during the third-round oral defense final held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Tanliang stood out and won the Silver Award (the Gold Award in the Chemistry category was not awarded this year). After passing the strict academic plagiarism checks in both Hong Kong and mainland China and the public exhibition review, his research report was officially qualified and confirmed on 20th November, 2025, to have earned him the Silver Award qualification in the Asia regional competition. He has also advanced to the Global Final of the S.-T. Yau High School Science Award held in Tsinghua University, Beijing from 5th to 7th December, 2025. In the final round, Ge Tanliang received Honourable Mention Award in Chemistry Category, along with a crystal trophy and a scholarship.
