Cultural Programme

S.1 students participated in creative workshops by local artists on Cultural Day. In the indigo dye workshop, students learnt the basic folding and binding techniques of Shibori and created patterns on fabrics. Also, in the woodcraft workshop, student learnt to make woodwork using different techniques. In the eco bee-wax cloth workshop, students were shown some creative ways to go greener in daily life, for example, the making of bee-wax cloth, which can help keep the freshness of food. Added to this, they also took iron wires as the main material, using the techniques of twisting, connecting, shaping and other materials to create small sculptures.
 

Film appreciation and sharing by the director of the film, which was part of the programme of the 12th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival, was held on Cultural Day. The two short films share the same theme, which is about life and death.

 

In the artist sharing session, the local artist, Mr. Chan Kwok Tong, shared the skills to create artwork by integrating art and music. His works are inspired by the musician, Gustav Mahler.

 

Artist talk:  Ms. Yim Sui Fong, a performance artist and founder of the non-profit Rooftop Institute, on 5th October, 2018

 

Rooftop Institute encourages regional exchanges socially and culturally. One of their projects – Asia Seed, connects Hong Kong youth with Asia’s modern history in the aspects mentioned above.  Young people are given the opportunities to interact directly with and learn from different artists.

 

The talk introduces how art education links individuals with their surroundings through the promotion of cultural exchanges in Asia. One of our S.6 students, Chan Hiu Ying Janet, was one of the participants of Asia Seed (Cycle 3). She was invited to share her experiences in Asia Seed, in which she worked with the Thai artist, Arin Rungjang, and Hong Kong artist, Pak Sheung-chuen.

 

Hong Kong Arts Festival Jockey Club Local Creative Talents Series – “Always by Your Side” on 30th October

The production team of “Always by Your Side” came to our school and depicted the extraordinary journey of two youngsters with special needs who unlocked their hidden talents and found fulfilment through music. It is through watching the show that students have gained more understanding on music therapy.

 

Indian dance cultural performance on 21th November, 2018

Inter Cultural Education (ICE) delivered Indian dance performance to our students. The dancers put on a performance of two Indian dances, including North Indian Folk Dance and Yoga Dance.
