Promoting Citizen Science Education in All Our Endeavors

CFSS has been promoting Citizen Science in school and community in the recent years. Our effort has been recognized by the public. An extended abstract was submitted in The Third International European Citizen Science Association (ECSA) Conference, titled as “Levering Secondary Schools in Promoting Citizen Science on PIECE Approach: Student-Centred Learning for Whole-Person Development”, aiming at setting a framework for other schools to take reference to.

To broaden students’ views on scientific research and better preparation of future research work and upcoming Citizen Science activities under the pandemic situation, our school recommended students to attend the webinar conducted by Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre this week, with the link of video record accessible at:

Our school collaborates with Ms. Smriti Safaya, who is currently a PhD student from University of York in UK, to discuss methods of uplifting Citizen Science education in CFSS. We look forward to collaborate with University of York and other schools in Hong Kong to raise public awareness towards biodiversity, climate change and sustainable development. Our first collaborative research project is titled “Citizen science, the ‘value-action gap’ and student action for the environment” to evaluate the effectiveness of citizen science towards boosting learning performance and attitude.

Collaboration is also sought with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Dr. Leung Suk Wai Winnie from Teaching Faculty - Division of Integrative Systems and Design and Prof. Shi Ling from Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering paid a warm visit to CFSS this week and discuss with our STREAM teacher team on potential collaboration on Robotics and AI Project to facilitate students’ project learning.

Many citizen science projects are ongoing, and our school continues to seek for collaboration for the betterment of students’ learning and school development, on top of our well-established school-based curriculum and above-standard learning venues.
