CFSS Teachers and Students Sharing their ICT Innovations in the InnoTech Expo 2022

Three senior form students, Lee Chi Mei, Lau Ho Chun and Wong Tsz Ching took part in The 24th Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition and obtained the first prize in the Computer and Information Technology category (Senior Section).

On 19th December 2022, the students were invited to take part in the InnoTech Expo 2022 to share their ICT innovations: “AI4Alzheimer”. The idea of the invention stemmed from their visit to the elderly as Peer Counsellors last year. It was found that the elderly could not memorize their names well, and were sometimes upset due to the degrading memory and not being able to recognize their close relatives.

Indeed, Alzheimer's disease is a syndrome affecting the brain functions, including memory, thinking, comprehension, learning and judgement. Sadly to say, despite the over-spilling growth of population in Hong Kong, improving quality of life and the longer life expectancy of Hong Kong citizens, there has been an inclined trend of patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease and Dementia, especially the aging residents. Could we do a little bit for them, so that they could use ICT to rejuvenate their memories with the use of “personal experience” and “own memory”? Therefore, our team prepared an invention, “AI4Alzheimer”, an all-in-one solution which incorporates Big Data, Artificial Intelligence with Computer Vision and Internet of Things to assist the patients with Alzheimer's, and to perform early intervention.

Presenting their inventions aside, they also shared the essential know-hows to make an invention and the strategies to raise students’ interest in scientific/technological innovations.
