Joyful Parenting Programme: “Once Upon a Time in HKDSE” Movie Appreciation Seminar
CFSS consistently emphasizes the importance of home-school cooperation. In order to equip parents with the tools to assist their children in navigating the challenges they face during their development, the Student Support Team at our school has introduced the "Joyful Parenting Programme" for the current academic year. The inaugural event of this program, the "Once Upon a Time in HKDSE" Movie Appreciation Seminar, commenced on the morning of December 14, 2024 (Saturday), attracting a total audience of 298 students, parents, and teachers in a specially reserved theater.
This film documents the experiences and growth journey of Hong Kong student Teng Yi Kang during his participation in the 2023 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) examination. Hong Kong students face tremendous pressure when it comes to taking public exams. However, is failing the university entrance exam—specifically the HKDSE—truly the end of the world? The film prompts us to contemplate deeply about the underlying issues of the examination system.
During the post-screening discussion, Mr. Hui Yin, the screenwriter and actor in the film, served as the guest speaker, sharing the motivations behind capturing this narrative and expressing solidarity with the DSE candidates. Principal Ho Tik Shun provided insights on the film, underscoring the importance of care and support from both school and family for DSE candidates on their exam journey, while encouraging all students to bolster their resolve and persevere in their studies.
