S7 Geography Field Course – Woodland Ecosystem

In order to widen students’ horizons and to apply the abstract concept of ecological succession into reality, our S.7 Geography students joined the field course organized by Ho Koon Nature Education cum Astronomical Centre in Tsuen Wan from 5th October to 6th October, 2009.

In the two-day field course, students investigated the structure and characteristics of two different woodlands in Hong Kong, analyzed the collected data from woodlands through experiments in laboratory, and then delivered presentations to share the results of analysis with classmates from other schools. Ecological characteristics and affecting factors of the woodland ecosystems is examined.

  • Students determining the pH value of the soil

  • Students getting ready to collect data in the woodland with loads of equipment

  • Students collecting data in the woodland using an anemometer

  • Students testing the amount of ammonia in the soil solution

  • Student actively participating in the briefing seminars of the field course.

  • Students heating up the soil sample carefully in the laboratory

  • We have had a joyful learning experience in S7 field course
