Biology Field trip: Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden

A Biology field trip to Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden was organized for S.6S1 on 29 June 2011 to investigate plant ecology and biodiversity. By now, students have understood how the Garden has paid concerted efforts in preserving precious plant species, namely orchids, ferns and Cyatheaceae plants. In addition, students visited Piers Jacobs Wildlife Sanctuary, Insect House, Greenhouses and Eco-garden, exploring nature practically through Nature Walk and Fern Walk to realize the importance of maintaining sustainability on environmental conservation.

  • Students investigating the herbs Wedelia (Wedelia chinensis) and Ixora (Ixora chinensis) on the roadside

  • Mr. Ho introducing the term corolla tube to S.6 students

  • Ariel searching aquatic life in aquarium

  • Cherry picking up some fern allies and investigating the root structure

  • Students stopping in the mid-way of slope to study vegetation distribution

  • A group photo of S.6S1 taken in front of several precious Cyatheaceae plants in the Fern Garden
