Exhibition on Climate Change in YMCA Chai Wan Center – Recruitment of Low-Carbon Ice-Savers
To further advocate the concept of sustainability and environmental protection to the school neighbourhood, we set up an exhibition booth in the YMCA Chai Wan Center from 17 January 2012 (Tues) – 19 January 2012 (Thurs) every afternoon from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with the theme of “Climate Change: Recruitment for Low-Carbon Ice-Savers”. In the booth, we conveyed the sustainability message and promote the benefits of leading a low-carbon life to the community. This activity continued the successful exhibitions in the Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo 2010 (December) and Open Day 2011 (March). The exhibition consisted of:
- Climate Change (Board displays)
- Game stall: Leading a Low-Carbon Life – Make Your Choice!
- On-line survey on Carbon dioxide Emission (Carbon Footprint)
- Students’ designed video clips on environmental issues
- Souvenirs to promote sustainable development
(a) Booklets: Golden Rules for Facing Climate Change
(b) Plantlets from organic farms
Every visitor usually spent more than 20 minutes in the exhibition. Different from the booth last year, we could even spend more time on an individual basis to instill the concepts of climate change and environmental protection to a majority of parents and children in the center through exhibitions, showing video clips, playing interactive games and carbon emission calculation.
Students were divided in groups to spread the message outdoors in the District. The message was echoed as children brought in many friends and classmates on the second and third days. Our student volunteers also interviewed parents and elderly on their lifestyle and sustainability policy in the District, and visitors showed full support to our sustaining outreaching activities well-received in the District in the past decade. Special thanks are due to our sponsors, Parent-Teacher Association, parent and student volunteers, alumni and teachers who provided invaluable assistance.
