Mr. John Dennis Liu, the “Rescuer” of Loess Plateau, Arousing Our Students’ Concern over Environmental Sustainability

Have you ever watched the National Geographic Channel? On 23 November, CFSS students were honoured to meet a film director of this Channel, Mr. John Dennis Liu. To let students understand more on the importance of environmental conservation and reforestation, Mr. Liu shared his precious experience of tree restoration project in the Loess Plateau in the past 15 years.

In the Q-&-A session, the students’ puzzling questions were solved by Mr. Liu’s far-sighted answers. The talk was likened to a forum where students realized that tree restoration not only conserved the environment, but also improved people’s living. Saving our Earth is of utmost importance.

Mr. Liu concluded his talk by imprinting three crucial traits of sustainability on students’ mind, viz. biodiversity, biomass and accumulated organic matters.

  • Mr. Liu sharing his documentary on the difference of the habitat before and after the restoration project

  • Our Principal, Mr. Au, presenting the souvenirs to the guests

  • Gabriella (S.2C) asking how Mr. Liu persisted in spite of adversity in the project in the past decade

  • Lillian (4A), a Low Carbon Guru, asking Mr. Liu how different parties’ interests could be balanced in the restoration project

  • Evelyn (5A) and Alice (3A) sharing their experience in promoting sustainability in our school

  • Our Principal, Mr. Liu and Mr. George Jor, Convenor of CUHK Tree Project, sharing on how CFSS takes the pioneering role in educating the next generation on environmental conservation
