Visiting Our Sister School, Nanyang Middle School in Shanghai, from 17 to 21 April 2017
We visited our sister school, Nanyang Middle School in Shanghai, from 17 to 21 April 2017. It has proved to be a rewarding experience. Warmly received by by Principal Lu Jun, Deputy Principals Yu Xiao-jun and Zhou Ying-jun, and Supervisor Lu Dong-liang, our group members were able to visit scenic spots, such as the Shanghai Museum and Shanghai Disneyland, and participate in educational activities. We were glad that teachers and students of Nanyang Middle School accompanied our group throughout the journey. Other activities include:
1. Author Talk Mainland author Ms. Teng Xiao-lan shared her insights into reading and writing with teachers and students of both schools. In the light of Ms. Teng’s sharing, students were introduced to the relationship between reading and aesthetics, as well as the interpretation of benevolence in the form of writing. Her generous sharing has enriched our understanding about Chinese literature.
2. Cultural Exchange—Performances Our students and their Nanyang Middle School counterparts introduced their food cultures to each other. They also performed poem recital, sang songs in Cantonese and Putonghua, and gave performances of different musical instruments.
3. Friendly Sports Matches Students participated in friendly matches in badminton and table-tennis. Needless to say, they learnt a lot from each other.
Apart from the above, our students attended lessons in Nanyang Middle School, and went to the Historical Gallery and Virtual Reality Laboratory in the school.
With all these experiences, both students of both schools widened their horizons. Most importantly, they established strong bonds with each other.
