Art and Science of Trees, Birds and Butterflies Exhibition at JCCAC

Our School held an exhibition at Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) from 12th to 14th April 2013.

There were four themes in the exhibition. The most attractive one was Birds. Our students spent a lot of time to create art work to show different characters of birds. Besides, we promoted green living and introduced cross-curricular Activity Day at Tsung Tsai Yuen.

We hope that visitors could be more aware of the natural ecology and the importune of environmental protect through our exhibits

Arts Sharing by Prof. Li Wei Han

To encourage a balanced school life with both academic and co-curricular activities, we invited Prof. Li Wei Han to share her art works and experience with our students on 26 March. Prof. Li is a famous artist and sculptor. Her works are widely exhibited in Hong Kong and overseas. From 1990 to 2010, she had worked in the School of Design, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, while making successful endeavors in the art scene.

A cappella workshop by the University of Oxford

Out of the Blue (OOTB) is an all-male a cappella group from the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University in England. The student-run group sings different types of music including modern rock and pop hits.

On 18 March, after performed a few songs, they divided the audience into two groups, and led them to sing a cappella.

Italian Opera Introduction by Professor Lo King Man

An opera is part of the Western classical music. It started in Italy at the end of the 16th century.

On 11th December, Professor Lo King Man introduce the Opera “La bohème” composed by Puccini and “Cavalleria Rusticana” composed by Pietro Mascagni to our students.

Professor Lo was awarded the SBS for his significant contribution and outstanding achievements in arts and culture, as well as his valuable advice on the policies and initiatives in relation to performing arts. We are very glad that we can invite him to our school to introduce Opera.

Cantonese Opera Appreciation

A Chinese opera is a unique artistic coalescence of drama, singing, music, dancing and martial arts. Since Tang Dynasty, when the first national opera troupe ‘Pear Garden’ was formed, Chinese opera has been one of the most popular forms of entertainment in China and many other places.

On 10th December, the guests from Young Friends of Hong Kong Arts Festival introduced Cantonese operas to our students. They duetted the classic “香夭”, seasoned by our ardent our students and teachers.  They all enjoyed the brilliant and fascinating musical performance very much!

Film Appreciation

Movies are key cultural artifacts that offer a window into different cultural, social and historical contexts. On 12th November, we invited Mr. Law Wei Ming to talk about films. Mr. Law is a Programme Curator in the Film Programmes Office of Leisure and Cultural Servies Department. Being a classical film lover, he introduced films to our students in order to help them explore different varieties of film experience.

The Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra Chamber Music Concert of Classics and Jazz

The Hong Kong Medical Association Orchestra was established in 1989 by a group of doctor musicians.

The Orchestra and its ensemble aim at providing the best music-making experience possible with musicians playing on a voluntary basis. Members stay with the Orchestra because of the mission, fellowship and fun.

On that day, they not only played the classical music, but also the Jazz-style music! They presented an entertaining programme with "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi, Anderson pizzicato jazz and the music of Piazzolla.

Musicians playing the first piece which was composed by Piazzolla. Piazzolla was an Argentine tango composer. He is best known for being the father and inventor of Tango Nuevo - a revolutionary new genre in which jazz rhythms and classical music were infused into tango.

2012/13 Season Opening Concert
Thomas Blug's Guitar Music Journey

Thomas Blug, a German musician, guitarist and composer introduced the guitar music to our students on 18th September, 2012. He showed us the left-hand fingering technique, musical effect and the instrumental sonority in different melodic and harmonic context. Students enjoyed the brilliant and fascinating music performance very much. Some of our students improvised music with Thomas Blug in the show too!
